Animation and song “Rose and Blue” was released in the midst of the global lockdowns in Spring 2020. An artistic mind finds it hard to “go on lockdown”, so we found a way to keep creating across the borders, through the distance from our homes.

“Rose and Blue” animation is created in collaboration with award-winning German animators Julie Boehm and Marc Zimmermann. The song is co-written and produced by David Duffy. Its a part of my debut album “Colours” that will be out in 2021.

When I pause with the busyness of the days below the roofs of the buildings, I look up at the night sky and I feel peace, feel at home, feel my mother’s presence.

My song is dedicated to Vera Parkhatskaya, my loving mother and beautiful soul. When I was 16 my mother passed away, and so when I came to write music, naturally this material flowed
out almost immediately.

I believe in energies. I believe that the soul has the ability to move and change form. When I pause with the busyness of the days below the roofs of the buildings, I look up at the night sky and I feel peace, feel at home, feel my mother’s presence.

Rose and Blue is a song about death portrayed as transcendence of physical body shelter into pure energy that is now on a journey to “home” of lights, where all splits and unites. It’s not about the end of something, but the beginning or just eternity of everything. And…. there is always someone to stay behind and let go.

We will also leave this wonderful world one day – nobody knows what will come, but let’s have a nice farewell. Let’s dive into the pink blue sky of the galaxy until only the waves are reflected on the ocean

I’d like to share a excerpt from the interview I had with Joe Heffner for his music blog Two Story Melody.

“Rose and Blue” is a jazzy, ethereal song that deals with mortality. What was going through your mind when you wrote it?

I came up with the first melodies when I was playing with my husband, composer and bassist David Duffy, at the piano. Initially, I just grabbed onto the melancholy of the major 7th, while he was playing around with some 9 chords. Just the vibration of that note, its color and character brought me to this dreamy and maybe a little bit sad place.

And then my mind travelled to the milky way, to waltz through cosmic gases and stars. My imagination quickly travelled far to energies, vastness…to the place of missing someone. In the middle of mumbling melodies, I understood what the song was about. It became clear that it was one more way to tell a story of my mother, Vera Parkhatskaya, and how she died.

Lyrics of “Rose and Blue”

Dedicated to Vera Parkhatskaya, loving mother and beautiful soul

Fly to the moon
I’ll go fly to the moon
I can see the sky is rose and blue

Invisible silk of matter
Where all splits and unites
I’ll shake the dust and enter the light

Far from the gloom
Breathing in to the full
For the dreamers only go to places where they want to move

Dropping away my shelter
One string attached to the ground
I’ll shake the dust and enter the light

I’ll go fly to the moon
I’ll go fly to the moon
I can see the sky is rose and blue

Far from the gloom
Breathing in to the full
For the dreamers only go to places where they want to move

Invisible silk of matter
Where all splits and unites
I’ll shake the dust and enter the light
Floating through light that’s scattered
Embrace what I am leaving behind
I’ll guide my way and center in quite

Fly to the moon
Breathing in to the full
For the dreamers only go to places where they want to move
A dream, a dream to spread my wings
That feel, the feel that carries me through
A dream that I belong to
This is how I feel
This is how I feel …. without you
